YEAR: 2018 VARIETAL: Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvèdre APPELLATION: Barossa Valley REGION: South Australia COUNTRY: Australia STYLE: Dry
My personal favourite of the Torbreck wines, I find that nothing touches this for sheer consistency, year after year after year. A steading is a group of inter-related buildings found in Scottish forests, where founder Dave Powell spent his youth. These three inter-related grape varieties - the “Rhône Blend” - are like a vinous steading. Grenache is the base, all attractive red fruit and high glycerol smoothness; the Shiraz adds weight and tannin plus a dose of black fruit; and the Mourvèdre brings a bit of earthiness, leather and mystery.
