DESCRIPTION: The third wine of the famous Calon-Segur estate from the northern end of the Médoc. Like many lesser wines of the great chateaux, in 2011 this wine benefitted considerably from “declassified” fruit that wasn’t used for the grand vin. This is a common practice in cooler years, where tiny quantities only of the top wine are made, with much of the fruit going into second or third cuvées. A light touch with the oak has produced a really pleasant medium-bodied claret, that’s now fully mature and drinking well. Predominantly red fruit, but with hints of cabernet cassis still lingering, this is classic savoury and smooth red Bordeaux.
