Year: 2017 Appellation: Yarra Valley Region: Victoria Country: Australia Style: Dry
Description:
Like the red Rhone varieties with which Australia is blessed, we also did fairly well with the white Rhones. Marsanne in particular has found a home in our warm, dry climates, especially in Victoria in the regions of Yarra Valley and Nagambie Lakes.
Ben Haines is a Yarra specialist, and he often sniffs out obscure or forgotten vineyards. The Volta Brackets Marsanne is from the Warramunda vineyard in the Coldstream sub-region of the Yarra. It has been aged in large barrels while spending nine months on lees, and given a bit of malo-lactic to soften the acidity. Citrus dominates the palate, but there are hints of apples and pears lurking with intent.
These wines are capable of long ageing, and are only released at three years of age - but will reward longer cellaring if you can wait that long...
