There are four vineyards in the Tractor portfolio, all about ten minutes from each other (by tractor of course). They all have their individual characteristics, depending on varietal, vintage and whatever the winemaker does - and since all four produce both pinot noir and chardonnay, it makes for some really interesting comparisons.

The Wallis Vineyard is east facing at around 130m asl on the Flinders side of Main Ridge, so moderate to warm by Mornington standards. Warm enough to ripen both chardonnay and pinot noir, and both do magnificently here. This pinot has benefitted from a fairly long time on its skins - 30 days in fact - so it has a fine, chalky tannic structure. Eleven months on oak has blanced that up nicely, giving a wine with lovely berry fruit, herbal notes and a silky finish.

Those tannins will keep this in fine fettle for years. Good now, it'll be better in a few years time. If you can wait that long.

"A beautiful bouquet of sage and boysenberry capture the fruit expression from this Flinders site. The chalkiness and mineral edge balance the fruit depth and harmonise the velvety tealike tannins that cover the palate and delight as this wine opens up and evolves."
