There is a dogmatic view in food and wine circles that you should always drink dry wines with savoury food. Well, no one told the Germans! While they do make dry styles - and very good they are too - the Mosel region in particular specialises in off-dry and medium-dry styles such as this.

The Schieferterrassen of the label refers to the “slate terraces” where the grapes are grown. Riesling famously mimics the soil it is grown in more than any other variety, and those slate soils provide the minerality to balance the fresh cool-climate acidity and lovely honeyed fruit of the wine. The 2015 vintage was nice and warm too, providing above average ripeness for this marginal climate.

Drink with something that has a touch of natural sweetness such as scallops, prawns or scampi. It will also handle a touch of spicy heat as well.
